Program Overview

Program description and objectives:

The Canadian Climate and Nature Fund for the Private Sector in Asia (CANPA) is a CAD 360 million single-donor trust fund established by the Government of Canada and managed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Through Global Affairs Canada, Canada contributes up to CAD 350 million in concessional financing and up to CAD 10 million in technical assistance to set up the fund. CANPA aims to draw private sector investment into climate and nature-based solutions across Asia and the Pacific, and to lower risks to bring viable projects to market. It supports developing countries, including small island developing states, in reducing emissions and transitioning away from high-carbon pathways and in building resilience to climate change. It also finances nature-based solutions that protect, sustainably manage and restore natural or modified ecosystems, including sustainable agriculture and aquaculture. CANPA aims to accelerate gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. The fund encourages opportunistic investments in response to market gaps and demand, leveraging ADB’s private sector platform and capabilities. It builds on the Canadian Climate Fund for the Private Sector in Asia (CFPS, 2013) and CFPS II (2017).
