Organization description
IDB Invest is the private sector arm of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group. It aims to be the partner of choice for the private sector in Latin America and the Caribbean. It finances projects to advance clean energy, modernize agriculture, strengthen transportation systems and expand access to financing. Like the IDB, its commitment is to economic growth and social inclusion. IDB Invest is owned by its 48 member countries, 26 of which are in the Latin American and Caribbean region. It provides senior and subordinated loans in U.S. dollars or local currencies, partial credit enhancements and risk-sharing structures, and long-term investments, often through minority stakes. It also offers quasi-debt and quasi-equity solutions, bond issuance support, and short- and medium-term loans and guarantees for trade and supply chains. IDB Invest also blends concessional donor funds with its own resources to catalyze financing where commercial funding alone is insufficient. In 2025, IDB Invest achieved about USD 13 billion in total activity. The IDB Group's Institutional Strategy outlines how the IDB, IDB Invest and IDB Lab support the sustainable and inclusive development of Latin America and the Caribbean from 2024 to 2030.
