Organization description
PIDG is an infrastructure development and finance organisation funded by six governments: the UK (FCDO), the Netherlands (DGIS), Switzerland (SECO), Sweden (Sida), Australia (DFAT) and Canada (Global Affairs Canada). Established in 2002, PIDG has addressed market failures in infrastructure, aiming to get infrastructure finance moving and multiplying. It has evolved a scalable approach to mobilise finance and accelerate impact where it is most urgently needed. Working throughout the project lifecycle, it reduces financial risk, transforms markets and builds local capacity. Its solutions are technical assistance for bridging funding gaps and maximising project impact, and project development and equity for early-stage and growth-stage projects. They also include debt solutions for raising and deploying stable, long-term commercial debt, and local currency guarantees that reduce financial risk for domestic and international investors. PIDG also runs credit enhancement facilities established to mobilise local capital into businesses. Its priorities include transformation of the energy system and responding to the growing vulnerability of emerging markets and developing countries to climate change. Its target markets are in sub-Saharan Africa and in south and south-east Asia. Between 2002 and 2025, PIDG attracted USD 51.4 billion in total investment and brought 286 projects to financial close. These projects gave 240 million people access to new or improved infrastructure and created 269,000 long-term jobs.
